Don’t be deceived by the truck. Parked just across the street from Sachs Plumbing Supplies and the Jackie Robinson Memorial Park in downtown Stamford, El Charrito taco truck is a mobile Mexican mecca. Husband-and-wife owners Carlos and Alex Terron put their heritage, heart and soul into their work, and it shows in their food. A few years ago, Alex left the kitchens at General Electric to open his own business with El Charrito. The regular menu items such as the spicy pork taco (carne adovada) is a melt-in-your-mouth delicious bite of tender, marinated spicy pork, and the chicken enchilada topped with salsa verde and fresh queso is hearty and worth a return trip. The Terrons make their food to order (some items with American or more authentic Mexican versions), so you can pick and choose a variety for all different tastes and spice levels. If spice is your thing, be sure to ask for their homemade hot sauce. The chicken burritos and quesadillas are great for the kids, as are popular standbys such as hamburgers and hot dogs. Just don’t miss the chorizo, steak and black bean burrito with chipotle mayo (we highly recommend it and really can’t get enough of it). Look for the yellow truck parked in Stamford and visit El Charrito’s website or follow them on Twitter or Facebook.
