Red Hat On The River

Located about 25 minutes from Greenwich in Irvington, NY, Red Hat on the River sits on the Hudson with amazing views of the Manhattan skyline, an outdoor patio and a rooftop deck. Inside, the restaurant has an open, two-story layout with an industrial feel (the space was once the boiler room of a greenhouse manufacturer) and still manages to be warm and inviting. When we recently stopped in for dinner, Glenda Davenport sang along with a jazz band (they’re there Wednesdays) while husband-and-wife owners Jim Parker and Mary Beth Dooley danced along between chatting with customers. The menu runs the gamut from spicy yellowfin tuna tartare and house-made gnocchi for starters, to grilled mahi mahi, slow-braised short ribs and steak frites entrées. For dessert, make the tough choice between Something Chocolate (flourless chocolate cake with salted caramel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream) and a lemon tart with pear sorbet.
