Seaside Soiree

Lifestyle expert and designer Eddie Ross creates a luminous beachside buffet, celebrating summer with the freshest catch of the day and easy elegance.
Text by Jaithan Kochar
Photography by Leslie Dumke

This summer, as the sun slips behind the horizon and dusk settles into place turn your lawn, porch, pool or deck into an inviting outdoor escape where family and friends gather together all season long.

Set the Scene To shade guests from the sun, Ross fashioned a simple canopy using a store-bought tent frame draped with burlap. A table and benches, flanked by chairs, creates a warm-weather room with all the comforts of home. Tent frame and burlap, Home Depot, Port Chester, 914-690-9745; vintage furniture, Braswell Galleries, Norwalk, 203-357-0753.

Light It Up Paper lanterns in patriotic hues cast an ambient glow over the dinner party. Hurricanes with pillars illuminate the tabletop and keep summer breezes at bay. Lanterns, Party City, Stamford, 203-964-4961; glass hurricanes, Simon Pearce, Greenwich, 203-861-4961.

Dig In Unclutter your table by serving your meal buffet style. Carry the color palette from table to buffet, varying heights and illuminating dishes appropriately. Lobsters and sides, Fjord Caterers and Charters, Greenwich, 203-622-4020.
