Stylish and contemporary, sushi restaurant Saito will please even the most sophisticated palate. You’re guaranteed an intimate experience that will make you feel like you have your own private sushi chef. Perch yourself at the small sushi bar (room for five) and let the culinary experience, originality and artful displays of chefs Youichi Saito and Atsushi Ganaha take you on a foodie’s adventure. Tucked away on the side of the main dining room, the bar allows for quiet conversation and the undivided attention of your own chef (who, when we recently popped by, was very informative). Opt for the 20-course tasting menu priced at $75 (the chef will choose for you; you don’t order off of Saito’s regular menu). If you’re lucky, you’ll start with an uni shot: white soy sauce, Japanese vodka and yuzu juice, topped with kalamansi sorbet. We loved the spicy shrimp tempura roll with the chef’s two special sauces, as well as the baked Blue Point oyster served with warm wasabi spinach cream and Kaffir lime leaf powder. The simplicity and freshness of the salmon and bigeye tuna nigiri was a nice way to balance out some of the more traditional sushi with the exotic. Worth noting: we enjoyed the flavorful chicken confit with Humbolt Fog cheese and Meyer lemon, and the garlic soy seared fillet of beef tenderloin nigiri. The tasting menu is ever changing, enticing customers to return.
